Principal: Ms. Maria Hernandez

Maria Hernandez is a ÎçÒ¹AV graduate and attended SMU where she majored in Political Science and History. Her professional journey began as a bilingual teacher  20 years ago. She earned her master’s degree in Education and School Counseling at Texas A&M Commerce and continued her educational career as a school counselor. She truly enjoyed her work as a school counselor and gained valuable experience that prepared her to step into school leadership as Assistant Principal at Harry Stone Montessori Academy.  Ms. Hernandez is currently serving as the Principal Resident at E.D. Walker and Prestonwood Montessori and is excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve our students in this new role.

As an educator and parent, Maria Hernandez strives to instill a love for learning in all children. She believes in the power of empowering students to pursue their highest potential and believes that every child can learn and thrive.

Dan Micciche is a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. He has lived in Dallas since 1981, and has been a resident of ÎçÒ¹AV District 3 for 24 years. He was first elected to the ÎçÒ¹AV Board of Trustees in 2012, and re-elected in 2015 and 2018. He served as President of the ÎçÒ¹AV Board Trustees from 2016 to 2018.

Dan started and chaired his firm’s School Partnership Program with James W. Fannin Elementary School in Dallas from 2005 to 2012. The program won the State Board of Education’s gold level award for community partnerships in 2011.
Dan received the “No Kid Hungry” Award from Share Our Strength in 2014 and “The Closing the Gap” Award from Leadership ISD in 2017.

Dan received his B.A. with highest honors from Stony Brook University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Dan has been recognized by clients and peers in The Best Lawyers in America for 14 consecutive years; in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business for 16 consecutive years; in Texas Super Lawyers for 16 consecutive years; and as one of the best lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine for eight consecutive years.

Dan’s civic and charitable activities include serving on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Dallas; former vice chair of Texas C-BAR (Community Building through Attorney Resources), a pro bono organization; and former board of directors member of the American Foundation for the Blind-Southwest Region. He previously served on the School Finance Task Force of the Greater Dallas Chamber. He also served on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas from 2008 to 2011. He served on the Comptroller’s Tax Advisory Group under three different Comptrollers.

Dan is a 1999 graduate of the Greater Dallas Chamber’s Leadership Dallas Program and the Leadership Arts Program of the Dallas Business Committee for the Arts, 1998.

Dan serves on his firm’s pro bono and retirement committees. He also is currently a member of the Dallas office’s diversity committee. He served as the hiring partner for the firm’s Dallas office for eight years and on the associate and counsel compensation committee for more than ten years. He also coordinated the associate and counsel evaluation process in the Dallas office for many years. He is the founder of the Akin Gump Continuing Legal Education Series for In-House Counsel in Dallas.

In 2006, Dan received the firm’s first Partner Recognition Award for his mentoring of counsel and associates and the firm’s Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award. In 2010, he became the 11th lawyer inducted into Akin Gump’s “Pro Bono and Public Service Hall of Fame” based on his contributions to pro bono and community service throughout his legal career.

Highland Meadows Elementary School opened in 2004 to provide overcrowding relief to Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School.

Our school has a reputation for academic excellence because all staff members instill in the students our motto “Where Expectations are High!”

HMES is also known for having quality staff with positive and caring attitudes toward all students. Our staff is highly trained and provides instructional strategies to accommodate all types of learners.

We strive to meet the individual needs of each student. Our goal is to maintain a safe learning community and empower students with the knowledge and skills to become productive and responsible citizens.
